Numerical Study of the Flow Characteristics of Downburst-like Wind over the 3D Hill Using Different Turbulence Models

With the rapid development of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology, it has been widely used to study wind field characteristics downbursts in mountainous areas. However, there is little guidance on selection different turbulence models for simulating downburst fields over hills using CFD, and few comparative studies have conducted. This paper nine simulate a 3D quadratic ideal hill. The simulated values average transient winds were compared with tunnel test data, flow at moments under analyzed. wake region hill are also quantitatively analyzed proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method. results show that approximately 85% from LES REA fall within 30% error range, so large eddy simulation (LES) model realizable k-ε (REA) more accurate mean field, by good agreement experimental data. In addition, this reveals evolution mechanism structure finds first-order mode obtained POD may be related acceleration effect hilltop.
